I was tagged, and in a game of tag, when you’re tagged, you’re “it”. So, I’m “it”.
In this version of the game, once you’re “it” you’re supposed to answer a few questions. So, here goes:
1. If you could have any superpower, what would you have? Why?
Well, of course, the default answer to a question like this is “why, I would fly of course”. (The second fallback always seems to be “invisibility”.) But I’d answer this question in terms of what I’m expected to do with my superpower. Will I be a crime-fighting superhero, or just a guy who uses his power to make his own life somewhat better? If the latter, well, I wrote last week about my “magic button“, which would definitely act like a superpower: stopping time. That’s one I’d primarily be using to make my life better. Ostensibly, if you granted me more liberal use of the power, I could use it to fight crime as well.
Still… flying. Basically, if you’re going to be a superhero, you should be able to fly. That’s kind of the price of entry. (Unless you’re Batman. In which case, your ultimate awesomeness is sufficient.) So I’d still want to do that. I guess super-strength and invulnerability typically come in handy as well. I guess the Flying + Stopping Time combo is kind of a little weird.
2. Who is your style icon?
What’s a style icon?
Seriously, I’m not quite as fashion-challenged as I used to be, but I’m still light-years away from one of those dudes who walks the runways. I try to look reasonably good, and as long as I’m not frumpy or wearing black shoes with a brown belt or vice versa, I figure I’m good.
3. What is your favorite quote?
Good question. I used to run a weekly “Writing Quotes” feature here, until I ran into some issues out in the real life that basically necessitated a drastic recession in my posting schedule. However… at the moment I can’t think of any particular quote that I could legitimately label as my “favorite”. So… no quote from me today. Sorry folks.
4. What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?
Another good question. My gut says the answer is “Yes”, which is what my wife said when I asked her to marry me. A second pass at the question would be any positive comment from a stranger in reaction to something I’ve written that they read.
5. What playlist/cd is in your CD player/iPod right now?
My mp3 player (not an iPod, but a Sansa Fuze, which I enjoy very much, thank you) has an FM tuner, and I keep it tuned to the local NPR station. I’ve also got it loaded chock full of tunes from my favorite movie soundtracks (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and many others), my favorite animes (especially from such as Fullmetal Alchemist and .hack//Sign and a few others) and a few classic rock and folk tunes. The soundtracks and wordless melodies, especially, are a crucial tool in my writing arsenal – I find they are perfect for helping to set the mood.
6. Are you a night owl or a morning person?
I’m definitely not a morning person. But of late, you sure can’t call me a night owl either – at least not intentionally. B.T. has a way of making eight uninterrupted hours of sleep per night an illusive fantasy. So even though I’m frequently awake at night, it’s not by choice, and I’m typically not altogether there.
7. Do you prefer dogs or cats?
I’m a dog person first – which my dog Shasta will be glad to hear. But I still have a soft spot in my heart for the cats as well.
8. What is the meaning behind your blog name?
I’d imagine it’s a bit clear. I write, ergo “Author”. But I’m unpublished, ergo “Undiscovered”.
Now, in a game of tag, it’s typical to run out and tag someone else – and most players follow the rule of “no backsies”, so I can’t tag who tagged me, and it’s probably bad form to tag those they also tagged. So here are a couple as-yet untagged:
